Having founded a business herself, Lauren Conrad knows how important it is to shine a light on female-founded businesses around the world. Back in 2013, the reality star turned entrepreneur founded The Little Market alongside Hannah Skvarla, a nonprofit store that features ethically sourced, artisan-made products that give back to the women who made them.
Now, The Little Market has headed to Amazon’s Handmade offerings, a marketplace that sells “unique products crafted by makers around the world.”
Every item, ranging from wax candles to reusable totes, is made by one of six female artisan groups across Bangladesh, Cambodia, the Philippines, Rwanda, the United States, and India. The profits made from each product, in turn, puts money back into the artisan’s hands, supporting women in those communities by giving them a living wage.
The storefront page says, “every purchase supports dignified income opportunities and essential resources for underserved artisan groups and social enterprises around the world.”
The Little Market also shares the story behind each group of makers. The reusable shopping and wine totes are made from locally sourced jute by artisan women in Bangladesh, while the woven bowls come from artisans in Rwanda, using locally sourced grasses and preserving generations of traditional techniques.
