During her Maleficent press tour, Angelina Jolie has been surprisingly candid and open about her 2016 separation from Brad Pitt. The actress spoke about losing herself in the months leading up to the split, telling French publication Madame Figaro that she “didn’t recognise [herself] anymore,” saying, “I’d become, how do I say this, smaller, insignificant, even if I didn’t show it.”
Now, she’s further elaborated on how she got through, saying that her children were her biggest support. “The last few years have not been the easiest, I have had my ups and downs, I haven’t felt very strong so, there’s something when you are not feeling very strong where you push yourself,” she told The Sun.
“We all have our difficult times, it’s very similar to my character [in Maleficent], my strength is from my children, I didn’t work, the kids needed me at home.”
She went on to say, “Anyone who is a parent knows there is a strength within you that grows when you just have to survive anything to be strong enough for them and you have to pull them through anything.”
Angelina’s six children – Knox, Vivienne, Pax, Shiloh, Zahara and Maddox – have been joining her on her press tour, often attending the red carpet premieres as their mum’s dates.
Brad, who revealed his drinking was a huge part in his marriage breakdown, opened up about going to AA earlier this year.
