When David Harbour and Lily Allen’s relationship was confirmed back in 2019, the world was thrilled, albeit surprised at the unexpected pairing. But then again, Stranger Things have happened, right?
Indeed, when you get to know the story of how the LDN singer and the Stranger Things star came to be, it all makes perfect sense. Hawkins might might be far, far away from the UK, but Allen and Harbour couldn’t be closer.
Here, we look back at their relationship timeline, from newly singles to newlyweds.
Early to mid-2019: The breakups
In January 2019, Allen revealed she had split up with her then-partner, MC Meridian Dan, with whom she’d shared a three year relationship.
“I’m single, for the first time since I was about 15. We’ve been broken up for about three weeks,” she told Elizabeth Day’s How To Fail podcast.
Several months later, Harbour also split up from his partner Alison Sudol after about a year of dating.
With that, both were single—and apparently very ready to mingle.
August 2019: The first date
Allen and Harbour were first spotted together in London while attending a performance of The Lehman Trilogy at the Piccadilly Theatre. According to E!, the pair had also had a quick dinner together before leaving in the same taxi.
August 2019: The boxing match
Not long after, the pair were pictured together attending a boxing match. At the time, a baffled Twitter user shared the image writing: “@DavidKHarbour When on earth did this happen!? ? I’m baffled! Hahaaa ? #LilyAllen Thought I knew all the gossip!”
October 2019: Their first (public) kiss
All was (finally) confirmed in October 2019 when the pair were pictured full blown kissing in public. As celebrities, there’s no doubt the pair were well aware they could be pictured out and about—they were obviously ready for the world to know they were an item.
October 2019: Basketball PDA
The public displays of affection continued when the newly outed couple attended a NBA game between the New York Knicks and the New Orleans Pelicans. They sat front and centre courtside, prime position for any photographer. Throughout the game they laughed, kissed and cuddled.
January 2020: Red carpet debut
Allen and Harbour took the final step in cementing their Hollywood relationship by making their first red carpet appearance together at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January 2020. Things were progressing nicely.
March-April 2020: Lockdown
As the Covid-19 pandemic began, Harbour and Allen locked down together, seemingly with Allen’s two daughters Marnie and Ethel.
On Harbour’s birthday he shared images of his lockdown celebrations with the three of them, writing: “To all the friends and fans that reached out with birthday wishes yesterday, thank you, so happy to have so so so so many people out there tracking my race to being infirm and embarrassingly saggy all over. And to those that didn’t, you’re heartless jerks.”
September 2020: The wedding
Thing were moving fast for the couple. In September, they filed for a marriage license in Las Vegas and not long after, Allen shared pictures of the pair celebrating the nuptials. Her short wedding dress was nothing short of perfect.
May 2022: The Met Gala
In early May, the couple stepped out for the 2022 Met Gala. Keeping to the theme, Gilded Glamour, Allen wore a gorgeous mauve coloured gown by Chanel. It featuring short sleeves and feathered detailing.
Harbour meanwhile went a little more literal with his approach: he wore a smart tuxedo complete with a bow tie, top hat and a cane.
May 2022: Stranger Things premiere
Allen supported Harbour in the midst of his press tour for Stranger Things season four by accompanying him to the New York premiere.
Allen brought along her two daughters, and the foursome posed happily on the red carpet together. Yep, it looks like this romance was truly a match made in Hawkins heaven.
