As any new mum knows, breastfeeding is no walk in the park. And when mastitis enters the equation? It’s a nightmare.
But one Queensland mother has found an unconventional way to treat the breastfeeding condition, which is usually the result of a blocked milk duct, and it involves using a vibrator.
Mum-of-two Danielle had mastitis three times while breastfeeding her nine-month-old son, she tells Kidspot, and when she began to wean him, the inflammatory condition returned.
“I had tried everything – heat packs, rubbing it, pumping, hot showers – everything,” she says.
After she read about massaging breasts with a buzzing vibrator to unblock the milk ducts while breastfeeding on an online mother’s forum, she decided to give it a try. And lo and behold – it worked in less than 10 minutes. Added bonus: it hasn’t come back.

“It didn’t hurt to use the vibrator – it was the least painful of everything I had tried before,” Danielle tells Kidspot.
That’s one way to shock the mother-in-law when she pops in to pay a visit.
