This Advertising Campaign From Holland Has A Powerful Message

It's going viral for the right reasons

An organisation dedicated to freeing children from forced sex work has released a powerful new advertisement that warns: “Sex is not child’s play”.

The Free A Girl advertisement begins with children unpacking sex toys from a box and speculating about their uses.

One girl suggests a particular toy might be a “dolphin” while another guesses “a fly swatter!”

But then, the chilling message appears on screen: “Innocent imagination for these girls. Horrible reality for others”.

The advertisement outlines the atrocities of international child sex work, with girls as young as seven forced against their will into the trade.

The campaign was released as part of the ‘Week against child prostitution’, from May 15-21

In a statement on the Free a Girl website, founder Evelien Hölsken said:

‘An estimated two million children all over the world are caught up in prostitution, of whom 1.2 million are in India. Girls are forced to have sex every day with dozens of men.”

She added: ‘We want this to stop and appeal to the whole country to join forces with us and take action. Together, we can liberate the girls from the horrific circumstances in which they live and offer them a bright new future.’

Since launching in 2008, Free A Girl says they have helped liberate thousands of girls from brothels and supported their rehabilitation into society.
