Tributes have poured in for a young woman whose body washed up on a Sydney beach earlier this week.
Shristi Bhandari, 23, who had moved to Sydney just two weeks ago to study her Masters of Accounting is believed to have drowned after being swept off rocks by a large. Her body was found fully clothed and washed up on Maroubra Beach on Tuesday morning.
26-year-old Sudeep Uprety was also believed to have been with Ms Bhandari at the time and has not been seen since. Police fear he too may have drowned.
Friends have taken to social media to share tributes to the “beautiful soul”.
“I can’t believe this could happen…You are an absolute angel…even death can’t dim your shine,” wrote one friend on Facebook.
“Her mum is bedridden due to this tragic news,” Ms Bhandari’s second cousin, Pratistha KC, told Fairfax. “Shristi was a very charming young lady. She was intelligent, beautiful, gracious and loved her mother the most. They were best friends.
“She loved her brother to bits and [was her] daddy’s pride.”
Her family and friends have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to return her body home to Nepal.
“She was a kindhearted and radiant person and we are all so shocked and saddened by her untimely demise,” reads the page.
