After seven years together, transgender man Trystan Rees and his partner, Biff Chaplow, have welcomed an adorable baby boy into the world.
34-year-old Trystan gave birth to Leo Murray Chaplow on July 14, and said he and his partner are absolutely overjoyed.
“Leo’s the most delightful baby ever — he’s eating like a champ, sleeping well, and blessing us with lots of cuddles,” Reese told PEOPLE.
According to CNN, Reese was assigned the female gender at birth and decided to carry their baby as a transgender man. He ceased taking testosterone in preparation for the pregnancy.
In a video in March, Reese explained: “I’m OK with my body being a trans body. I’m OK being a man who has a uterus and has the capacity and capability of carrying a baby.”
The Portland couple revealed they had sadly miscarried their first pregnancy after six weeks, but Leo was delivered at a healthy 4.3kg.
“It feels like an incredible relief for him to finally be here,” Reese said. “We’ve waited so long to meet him, and worked so hard to bring him into this world, that it’s just a joy to be able to look at his face and hold his tiny hand and actually see him.”
While Leo marks the couple’s first biological child, they also adopted Biff’s nephew and niece in 2011.
Congratulations to the happy family!
