A 22-year-old American who was holiday with friends was beaten to death after an argument broke out about a selfie, police say.
Bakari Henderson was at a bar on the Greek island of Zakynthos when he asked to take a picture with a waitress, The Washington Post reports.
A fistfight that involved other customers and bar employees then broke out. Greek police spokesman Theodore Chronopoulos said Henderson was brutally beaten during a 30 second period, leading to the American’s tragic death.
“They kicked and punched him to his body and his head,” he said. “His death came from hits in his head.”
Henderson’s friend Travis Jenkins said it was uncharacteristic of the young man to be involved in a fight.
“Bakari was not one to act aggressively like that,” Jenkins told ABC News. “He was always the one who was the peacemaker.”
A GoFundMe page has been created to help his family transport his body home and to cover funeral costs
The page reads: “This is the celebration of life for Bakari Henderson. The love for this young man overflows and this loss is unbearable for so many of us. If you knew Bakari, you knew he was driven in life and no goal is never set to high for him to achieve. He was just starting his life, so many dreams and aspirations not yet achieved.”
