The six-year-old beauty queen was found murdered in the basement of her family home in Boulder, Colorado on December 26, 1996, and no one has ever been found guilty of the crime.

Now it has been revealed that a mysterious phone call was made to 911 on December 23, just days before the brutal murder.

Authors Lisa Wilson and Nick Van der Leek, of The Craven Silence trilogy, believe there was more to this call.

Boulder police received a silent call three days before JonBenet died, when they called the number back, no one answered, reports News.com.au.

The number was traced to the Ramsay household, where a Christmas party was taking place. When police paid a visit to the house, a family friend told them it was simply a wrong number and would not let police in.

“We believe something happened at the party, something serious,” say the duo. “Secrets kept on December 23 were repeated under far more serious circumstances three days later. This time the Ramseys knew they could rely on their friends to keep their secrets.

“Their friends assumed the Ramseys were innocent, and if they felt otherwise later, they were ostracised, sued or accused.”

Parents John and Patsy remained suspects in their daughter’s death until 2008, when police finally cleared their names. By then, Patsy had already been dead for two years following a battle with cancer.

Her older brother Burke, who was nine at the time, was also a suspect but was exonerated by DNA evidence in May of 1999.
