The wife of former British Prime Minister Samantha Cameron has opened up about the loss of her six-year-old son shortly before the family moved into 10 Downing Street.
“Ive dying is such a massive thing that everything else is irrelevant. It just overshadows everything,” Cameron tells The Times.
“What goes on in the outside world becomes meaningless,” she explained.
“Like anyone else in my situation, I just kept going. You have to deal with it, because you have no choice.”

Ivan was born with Ohtahara Syndrome, a rare brain disorder and suffered from epilepsy and cerebral palsy. He tragically passed away in 2009 just before his seventh birthday.
Cameron, who was pregnant with youngest daughter Florence at the time, says despite Ivan being sick for most of his short life, nothing can ever prepare you for the loss.
“For the whole time Ive was alive, you were always dealing with life or death situations, but it doesn’t prepare you for when you are actually faced with it. When it happens, it is still a huge shock,” she continued.
“From the moment he is born you are living in a situation that is quite surreal and difficult to deal with. It is intense every day, in and out of hospitals. So you become quite used to dealing with situations week after week that are totally different from [those experienced by] anyone else.”
The family moved out of 10 Downing Street in July last year following her husband David’s resignation as Prime Minister after Britain voted to withdraw from the European Union.
Cameron has since also returned to the world of fashion with news that she is launching her own clothing line, named Cefinn, which is named after her four children.
