A Melbourne man will face at least two years behind bars after he was found guilty raping his partner’s twin sister.
A jury found the 24-year-old guilty of rape and sexual assault, and he was sentenced to a maximum of four years in prison, AAP reports.
The assault took place when the man, who cannot be named, visited his sister’s twin in the guest bedroom.
Recounting the events, a Victorian County Court judge said: “She told you to stop but you continued”.
The court heard that the man had told his partner about the incident, but said the twin was the one who initiated it and had violated him.
The judge said the accused had taken “the cowardly way out” by accusing the victim of lying.
“Instead of owning up and taking responsibility and trying to make amends, you denied it,” the judge said, Nine News reports.
“You reduced her reputation, attacked her honesty, blamed her, and ruined her relationship with her twin.”
