If you were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! trailer, you’re about to be disappointed – or at least perplexed.
While we had envisioned another feel-good movie with countless Abba numbers, it seems the sequel to the much-loved movie is set to be a lot darker because (spoiler alert) Meryl Streep’s character, Donna might be dead.
While it hasn’t been confirmed, the characters all appear to talk about Streep’s character as if she’s no longer there, with a pregnant Sophie (played by Amanda Seyfried) told by her mother’s bandmates, “your mother is the bravest person we ever met.”
To add further fuel to the fire, all of the footage of Streep is taken from the original movie, which first aired in 2008, with the focus instead on actress Lily James, who plays Donna in her younger years.
Naturally, fans are in uproar over the apparent death of Streep’s character:
The movie’s production company, Universal, won’t confirm or deny whether Streep’s character has been killed off, but seeing as the movie doesn’t drop till July next year, surely there’s still time for a revival?!
