Why Is It Okay For Katy Perry To Rank Her Former Sexual Conquests?

If a man did the same thing we’d be outraged

When a Facebook page ranking the attractiveness of female university students in Melbourne surfaced last year, the internet was outraged. The ‘Hotties of Melbourne University’ page was eventually removed after thousands of complaints.

And yet, when Katy Perry ranked her famous former lovers earlier this week from best to worst in bed, she was applauded. One headline read: Katy Perry Ranks Her Lovers, Proving TMI Is A Good Thing.

Playing ‘Spill Your Guts Or Fill Your Guts’ on James Cordon’s late night talk show, Perry, reluctantly, ranked sex with her ex-partners John Mayer, Orlando Bloom and Diplo.

To be fair, Perry did initially refuse to answer and said, “They’re all amazing lovers and I want to have sex with all of them after I get out of this place.” But after some coercing from Cordon, and the threat of eating a thousand-year-old egg, she relented – ranking Mayer first, Bloom second and Diplo third.

If the situation was reversed, and Mayer ranked his exes including Perry, Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift, we’d be up in arms.

We’re all for sex positivity, but there’s a difference between talking about your sexploits with a girlfriend over a cocktail and publicly ranking your exes without their consent on a talk show while promoting your new album.

If Cordon got permission from the men before the segment, then it would be a different story; but sharing intimate information without consent is a massive breach of trust.

Nobody likes to be to be compared to other people in the bedroom – not even rich and famous men.

Diplo responded to being named last on the list by Tweeting, “I don’t even remember having sex.” Again proving that nothing nice can come from comparing your sexual partners on TV.
