Former Home & Away actress Jessica Falkholt and her sister Annabelle are fighting for their lives following a horror Boxing Day car crash that killed three people, including their parents.
The family were travelling along the Princes Highway when their car collided with another vehicle. Lars and Vivian Falkholt died of resulting injuries, while their daughters were taken to Liverpool and St George hospitals.
Annabelle, 21, is still in a critical condition while Jessica, 28, remains in St George Hospital. The third person killed by the crash was an unnamed man from Ulladulla who is reportedly 50-years-old.
NSW Chief Inspector Phil Brooks warned that the 2017 Christmas and New Year period was particularly tragic on the road this year, with 11 fatalities occurring after vehicles veered off the road.
“Out of these 21 deaths, 11 road users have been involved in matters where their vehicles have simply left the road and crashed into a telegraph pole or a tree,” he said in a press conference.
“There are more cars on our roads and sadly, personal responsibility is lacking many road users. The impact of road trauma is significant.
“Out of 433,000 random breath tests, 739 drivers are facing the courts in the New Year for a range of drink-driving charges putting themselves, their passengers and other road users at great risk right throughout the NSW road network.”
He added that the state’s road death toll was at 873 fatalities this year, up 12 from the same time last year.
