Landing the role of one of pop-culture’s most iconic character’s is a milestone for any actress’s career, but originally Gal Gadot had no idea that’s what she was auditioning for.
The Israeli actress told Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night talk show that Zach Snyder, who produced and co-wrote Wonder Woman, wanted her to “audition for a secret role.”
“It’s where you get the lines, but you have no idea what the story is about, what the character is, nothing,” explains Gal.
“This industry – the rejection can be tough… I had so many ‘almost’ [auditions], and I told my husband ‘I don’t know how long I can take it’, always dragging my family to Los Angeles.”
At this stage, Gal revealed she was on the verge of giving up on acting – for good.
But then, Snyder called her back.
“They wanted to do a camera test and I thought, ‘Again? Another almost, almost, almost [job]?'” she reflects.
With Snyder being the ‘godfather’ of DC Extended Universe, Gal says that a superhero role was on the cards – her guess being Cat Woman.
Always wanting to play a strong and independent woman, for Gal, the actual result, was better.
“He said, ‘I don’t know if you have this character in Israel, if she’s big or not … but did you ever hear about Wonder Woman?'”
The rest is history.
