28 year old Sigourney Coles was asleep in her bed when her ex-boyfriend walked in and doused her with petrol before setting her alight, police allege.

Two of Sigourney’s flatmates were home at the time and quickly put the burning, distressed woman into the shower while calling emergency services.

“She was screaming, she was on fire…her clothes, carpet and her bed on fire…[she] was burning down her neck, chest and her fingers all the way up [her arm] was very severely burned,” Phillipa Allanson said.

“It just broke us, we couldn’t even be in the house while she was getting treated by the ambulance,” she told 9 News.

Sigourney was rushed to hospital in a serious condition for treatment of burns to her arms, chest and airway, News.com.au reports.

The 27-year-old man will face court later today on an attempted murder charge.
