Actress Bella Thorne has revealed she was sexually abused as a child in a heartbreaking post on Instagram.
Sharing her experience as part of the #TimesUp campaign to fight sexual misconduct in the workplace, Thorne said the abuse continued until she was 14 years old.
“I was sexually abused and physically growing up from the day I can remember till I was 14..when I finally had the courage to lock my door at night and sit by it,” she posted on Instagram.
“All damn night. Waiting for someone to take advantage of my life again. Over and over I waited for it to stop and finally it did. But some of us aren’t as lucky to get out alive.”
The Disney Star ended her post: “Please today stand up for every soul Mistreated. #timesup”.
Thorne first opened up about the experience on Twitter in December last year by tweeting: “The world can be a sick place sometimes”.
The #TimesUp campaign was spearheaded by Hollywood A-listers including Reese Witherspoon, Margot Robbie, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Emma Stone and Eva Longoria. The initiative aims to tackle sexual harassment not only in Hollywood but in all workplaces.
Money raised will be used to fund legal support for both male and female victims of sexual harassment.
