Amy Schumer has revealed the highs and lows of returning to work as a new mum.
In an emotional post on Instagram, the comedian admitted that she was “worried” about going back to work post-maternity leave.
“5 months today and like all mums I love him so much it hurts,” she wrote.
“I’m feeling strong and good and like I’m still a human being with interests and ambitions and goals I’m excited to reach. It’s felt good to be back at work. I was so worried about it and was afraid to go back after he was 3 months old.”
“A couple days I’ve cried from missing him,” she continued. “But it’s mostly good to be back and the breaks energise me to be a better mum and appreciate our time even more. I have it a lot easier than many people but I wanted to share my experience.”
Amy also invited fellow mothers to share how they coped with the transition from maternity leave to work, which was met with a wide response.
“I didn’t care about anything. Everything seemed trivial if it wasn’t about my kids,” fellow actress Drew Barrymore commented.
“But after time, things fall into the new place. Not the old. Old is gone. Forever changed by a love that is indescribable! And it just seems to get better and better every day! I am no longer interested in myself as me. It’s being their mum. That’s who I am now. You are such a cool person Amy! Your kid is gonna be so proud of you!”
“Thanks, Mama. Love, Gene & all the mamas who need strong examples of motherhood and support. ??,” supermodel Christy Turlington added.
Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, welcomed their son in May this year.
In true Amy fashion, she shared a joke in her Instagram announcement of her son’s birth.
“10:55 pm last night. Our royal baby was born,” she wrote in the caption.
