An Airbnb guest who was staying in the spare room of a family home has been charged with sexually assaulting the homeowner’s seven-year-old daughter.
According to police, the Airbnb host had rented out the room to 28-year-old Michigan man Derrick Kinchen. The guest was reportedly staying at the family home while attending a wedding over the weekend.
As the BBC reports, the host said he found Kinchen lying naked next to his daughter in her bedroom while her nightgown had been pulled up. The father made the horrifying discovery shortly after midnight after noticing the lights on in the house.
Kinchen then allegedly grabbed his suit jacket and wallet and ran from the house, ut was later discovered by a police dog hiding under a neighbour’s fishing boat.
Kinchen has been charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct of a victim younger than 13.
Airbnb spokesman Ben Breit Airbnb said the company was working with police and have banned the accused from the website.
“The reported abhorrent behaviour has no place on Airbnb and we will not tolerate it,” he said, the New York Post reports.
“None of our hosts should ever have to deal with anything like this.”
