For the Carrie Bradshaws of the world, shopping is like therapy. Even at the hint of an on-coming bad day, they spend the walk to work scrolling shopping sites to combat it. And the word ‘sale’? Music to their ears. But for others, getting to the checkout brings with it a sense of dread and guilt for spending money on something that perhaps wasn’t essential (though the Carries, of course, would say it depends on how you define essential). But an item that it’s impossible to feel shopping guilt over? One that gives back to charity!
After Ralph Lauren’s close friend, Washington Post fashion editor Nina Hyde, was diagnosed with breast cancer in the 1980s, the American fashion designer made a commitment to focus his philanthropic efforts on supporting cancer research, education and patient care. Now, some 30 years later, the brand continues to release an annual Pink Pony collection, which includes men’s, women’s and children’s pieces, with proceeds going to an international network of cancer charities (in Australia, funds are donated to Cancer Australia).
Under the campaign, 25 per cent of all proceeds from every piece of the 2019 collection, which includes accessories and homewares such as a scented candle and a ceramic coffee mug, will be donated. However, when the collection’s hero piece, the “Live/Love” graphic tee, is sold in the light pink colourway, 100 per cent of proceeds will go to Cancer Australia.
Just try to feel guilty about that! Impossible. Shop the Pink Pony collection in store now.
