By the time Kim Kardashian stepped out of a Paris courthouse on Tuesday morning, the message had been made loud and clear – without her saying a word. Draped in black and diamonds, the reality star turned mogul walked into the Palais de Justice not just as a witness in one of the most high-profile celebrity crime cases in years, but as a woman reclaiming the very thing that once made her a target: her jewellery. And she did this quite literally.

Wearing a sculptural black blazer-and-skirt combo and sleek Alaïa sunglasses, she accessorised with the very thing these men stole from her: diamonds (and lots of them). Around her neck shone a USD$1.5 million diamond necklace by Samer Halimeh, featuring 80 diamonds and a 10.13-carat pear-shaped centrepiece. Her opening statement was clear: this time, Kardashian was in control. A gleaming show of intention and defiance, she added an $8,100 Briony Raymond diamond ear cuff, pieces from Repossi, and her signature quiet confidence. Nothing about the look was random – it was the ultimate silent power move.

Kardashian, 44, is in France to testify against the men accused of robbing her at gunpoint during Paris Fashion Week in 2016 – a heist that shocked the world, netted the thieves roughly USD$10 million in jewels, and marked a before-and-after in how she thinks about fame, privacy, and personal security. But nearly a decade later, she didn’t shy away from sparkle. She leaned into it.

The fashion moment wasn’t just for the cameras. It made it into the courtroom sketch.

Of course, the occasion was far from frivolous. Kardashian’s testimony recounted in vivid, emotional detail the night masked men dressed as police forced their way into her hotel suite, zip-tied her limbs, and held a gun to her back. She feared she’d be raped. She feared for her life. She begged to survive for her children. The trauma, she told the court, still lingers. But so does her resolve.

By showing up draped in the kind of pieces that once made her feel vulnerable, Kardashian’s jewellery made a clear statement. She’s taking back control, one carat at a time and we’re here for it.
