There were spades woven throughout the Kate Spade spring 2019 collection. Stacked together to form leather bucket bags and artfully hidden in prints, the symbol took centre stage in creative director Nicola Glass’ debut collection for the label—which also marked the first since its founder’s tragic death.
In honour of the late fashion designer, the show’s guests were greeted by seat cards that read: “She left a little sparkle everywhere she went.” A quote referencing Spade’s vibrant personality, which was also captured in the pieces that Glass sent sashaying down the runway. Feminine midi dresses were splashed with impactful prints, sweater vests and polo shirts evoked a distinct ’70s vibe, and accessories ranged from oversized sunglasses and playful platform heels to silky headscarves (triggering our first fashion month trend alert).
Famous front-row faces included Kate Bosworth, Priyanka Chopra and Elizabeth Olsen, who were all decked out in the runway-fresh styles.
