In a heartwarming moment that lit up social media on Thursday evening, Matildas captain Sam Kerr announced that she and her partner, Kristie Mewis, have welcomed their first child – a baby boy named Jagger Mewis-Kerr.
Kerr shared the news on Instagram with a simple but joyful caption: “Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr.” Naturally, the post was met with immediate celebration from fans and friends. The Matildas’ official Instagram account followed up with its own message of congratulations: “Welcome to the Tillies fam, Jagger! Congratulations to mums Sam and Kristie on the arrival of their beautiful baby boy!”
The couple first announced their pregnancy in November 2024, marking a new chapter in a relationship that began in 2021. Kerr and Mewis got engaged in late 2023, after first meeting back in 2019 during a US National Women’s Soccer League tournament match.
Throughout their relationship, the pair have balanced high-profile careers on different continents – Kerr as the beloved captain of Australia’s national team, and Mewis as a midfielder for the US national team and West Ham United in the English Women’s Super League.
Kerr, 31, has recently been navigating a long recovery from an ACL injury sustained in early 2024, which kept her off the pitch for more than a year. She was officially cleared to return to the Matildas in March, just weeks ahead of her son’s arrival. It’s been a season of resilience for one of football’s most recognisable figures, both professionally and personally.
