When Jennifer Aniston unexpectedly joined Instagram earlier this week, she did so with a bang, quite literally breaking the platform and amassing a wild amount of followers in a 24-hour window (she’s now at almost 12m). Of course, her introduction to social media was made that much more viral by her first photo: a selfie with all six of her Friends co-stars, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry.
Unsurprisingly, Jen’s inaugural Instagram post managed to break a Guinness World Record. In just five hours and 16 minutes, she racked up a million followers, beating out the previous record holders, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who gained a million followers in five hours and 45 minutes when they debuted their joint account @sussexroyal, according to USA Today.
Jen gave a little more context behind the reunion while appearing on Howard Stern’s radio show, revealing that the dinner party of our dreams happened at Courteney home (naturally) and that they all got together because Ross, ahem David, was in town.
“Schwimmer was in town, and we all happened to have a window of time, so we all got together,” she said. “Oh my God, we laughed so hard.”
As for why she finally signed up to the ‘gram, Jen said that it was a way to control her own story. “You can actually have a little bit more control over the narrative that’s out there,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “[You can] right some wrongs and some silly things that, God knows, are said often.”
To be honest, we think Jen’s The Morning Show co-star Reese Witherspoon, who was her sister Jill on Friends and who is an Instagram Queen, might’ve had a little something to do with it too. She posted a welcome message to Jen writing, “Now I can finally tag her in FRIENDS memes! Welcome Jen! ?”
