Given that she works on the breakfast show, she has to get up at 3:30am every weekday, and the simplest solution for her and boyfriend Neil Varcoe both was to sleep apart.

โ€œProbably the secret to our relationship is we sleep apart,โ€ Bartholomew told Mamamia.

โ€œDuring the week he sleeps in one room and I sleep in the other.โ€

While they tried sleeping in the same bed for the first two years of their relationship, it was too difficult.

โ€œI would wake him up every morning at 3am โ€ฆ he could just never go back to sleep and then we were both tired and it was a total disaster,โ€ Bartholomew said.

โ€œWe just started to resent each other.โ€

They have tried making some other small changes so that they are still connected, despite getting to sleep in the same bed.

โ€œWe set up a noticeboard in our kitchen so that when I leave for work I leave him a note and then when I wake up thereโ€™s something there,โ€ Bartholomew said.

โ€œIt canโ€™t be a chore, it has to be something nice. One time I remember we had a big fight at night time and the next morning he wrote, โ€˜I love you even when I hate youโ€™.โ€

But this isnโ€™t unusual for many couples. One study suggested that one in four couples donโ€™t sleep in the same bed. Other famous couples that donโ€™t sleep in the same bed include the Queen and Prince Phillip, and Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter.
